Years ago, we were swimming in a pool at a hotel with my three youngest children.
My only daughter had decided to get out and stay out, she said.
Suddenly, sirens started blaring and emergency vehicles went flying past and I had looked up to see where they were going.
It only seemed like two seconds that I looked away. My sons had stayed in my peripheral, but my daughter wasnโt in the same spot. Her floats were lying at the edge of the pool steps.
My eyes instantly dropped in front of me and there she was UNDER the water, looking up at me with those eyes that matched the sky. In a panic, I snatched her up out of the water and she was fine.
After I got her out of the pool and reminded her of the rule and the danger, I asked her what she was thinking while she was under the water and wasnโt she afraid . She said; โI knew you would save me!โ
I felt so inadequate-so human! Shocked.
I resolved the incident thinking about the beauty of child-like faith and how we are to have that absolute trust (only in) God.
Today, decades later, Iโm looking back and instead of seeing all the times I had that kind of faith, Iโm seeing the times I rebelled like the toddler and took my floats off and then cried out from deep waters!
But- He was there! And I have learned as the lyrics say from Reckless Love of God:
โThereโs no shadow You wonโt light up
Mountain You wonโt climb up
Coming after me
Thereโs no wall You wonโt kick down
Lie You wonโt tear down
Coming after me
Oh the overwhelming, never-ending
Reckless love of God
It chases me down, fights til Iโm found
Leaves the 99!โ
He rescues from deep waters!
Psalms 18:16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.
I end asking you to think about Peter. Jesus called him out of the safety of the boat to walk ON TOP of deep waters!
He loves you- whether youโre under them, or over them! And He is able to draw you out of the deep waters and bring you back up to the top.
